Inspired by Sleuth (Anthony Schaffer play/film), Coach vs Critic is a 2 hander set at the Cactus Club Golf Club.

Hollywoods historic love affair with the “western” is tested to the limit by the rivalry between an Englishman and American.

Not unlike Dr Strangelove or Withnail and I, this is a story set in a world of confrontation.

Project Overview

Coach vs Critic is a 20-minute psychological thriller short film, inspired by Sleuth and written by Tim Whitty. This intense two-hander unfolds during a single round of golf, adapting the original play’s single-location drama into a dynamic setting with sharp dialogue and compelling performances by Gore Abrams (The Substance) and Michael Sheldon (The Crown).

Logline

A cunning golf coach and a sharp critic clash in a battle of wits on a golf course, where each swing uncovers rivalries and hidden motives.

Target Audience

Aimed at fans of psychological thrillers and character-driven dramas, particularly adults aged 25-55 who enjoy dialogue-heavy films like Sleuth. Golf enthusiasts and indie film fans will also appreciate the unique setting.
